The Board voted to distribute $35 million in projected federal "job stimulus" funding to 10 projects across the Kern region. If signed by the President, the Jobs for Main Street Act of 2010 would provide as much as $149.3 billion in business tax break extensions and funding for infrastructure and other projects. In Kern COG's Winter Quarterly, the state's Legislative Analyst's Office gives local governments and Caltrans high marks for the way they have used federal stimulus funding so far, even though some data is still outstanding. More than 83 percent of all big rigs traveling along Interstate 5/State Route 99 between Lebec and Kettleman City began their trips within California, and are more likely to be carrying food than any other commodity, according to a new Kern COG study examining truck origins and destinations within our region.
